Grist Mill Fine Arts Council was formed in 1977 to provide a means to bring the arts to southwest Iowa and to provide a performance venue.  In 1979 the Arts Council moved into the former site of the John Deere dealership owned by the McCready Family.  Volunteer efforts for 40+ years have transformed the building into a comfortable theater which seats 132.  Within the house are many objects and memorabilia from the farm implement dealership.  These objects and the rustic walls and floor create a unique ambiance and character.  Upgraded heating, air conditioning, insulation and thermo-pane windows have all added to the comfort level of the building.
