Grist Mill Fine Arts Council was formed in 1977 to provide a means to bring the arts to southwest Iowa and to provide a performance venue. In 1979 the Arts Council moved into the former site of the John Deere dealership owned by the McCready Family. Volunteer efforts for 37 years have transformed the building into a comfortable theater which seats 132. Within the house are many objects and memorabilia from the farm implement dealership. These objects and the rustic walls and floor create a unique ambience and character. Upgraded heating, air conditioning, insulation and thermopane windows have all added to the comfort level of the building.
